Prospects’ win streak snapped with walk-off loss at Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. – After winning four consecutive games, the Peak Prospects’ streak has come to a halt.

With two outs, runners on first and second for the Outlaws, and the game tied 4-4, Kolton Reynolds hit a one-run RBI to end the game in the bottom of the 9th.

Des Moines drops to 4-2 with the loss, while Joplin begins its season 1-0 after the win at Joe Becker Stadium.

Joplin led 3-0 after one inning and held that lead going into the top of the 6th. But pinch-hitter Colin Evers (SO, NIACC) doubled and scored fellow NIACC Trojan Alex Berreth (FR) to make it a 3-1 game.

In that same inning, center fielder Carter Thomas (FR, Wayne State [NE]) reached on an error and scored Evers and Weston Barber (FR, SWiCC) to tie the game.

Joplin re-took the lead on a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning, but pinch-hitter Bubba Thompson (SO, Clarke University) broke his bat on a double to score catcher Isaac Short (FR, Northwestern College [IA]) to tie the game in the top of the 8th.

On his 19th birthday, Jeter “Doc” Fulbright IV (FR, University of the Ozarks) made his first start of the season in his third appearance and threw five strikeouts in five innings.

Diego Morales (FR, Bryant & Stratton [VA]) relieved him for an inning and added another strikeout, while Parker Stewart (FR, Northeast CC [NE]) threw three innings as the closer with five strikeouts of his own.

The Peak Prospects wrap up their seven-game, five-day slate with another game at Joplin on Friday at 7 p.m. CT.
