Peak Prospects fall in two 6-3 losses against Joplin

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Des Moines and Joplin had to make up the final few innings of a game that had been postponed due to weather back on June 2.

Down 5-0 with no outs in the top of the 5th, Isaac Short (FR, Northwestern College [IA]) came up to the plate with a 1-0 count, right where the game had left off 18 days prior.

After a Short double and a walk from Cole Hillman (FR, Hutchinson CC), Tanner Short (FR, Ellsworth CC) drove in a 2-RBI double. Then two batters and one out later, Declan O’Hare (Cov-JR, Central College) hit an RBI single, all to put Des Moines down 5-3.

But Joplin’s defense tightened and forced the Peak Prospects (9-9) to go three-up, three-down over the final two innings in a seven-inning game. The Outlaws (6-9) added a run as well and won 6-3.

In the second game, early miscues put Joplin up 4-0 going into the bottom of the 4th. But Jaxon Brooks (FR, Mesa CC) drove in an RBI single to score Noah Cook (SR, Southern Illinois). Cade Grevengoed (FR, Northeast CC [NE]) scored on the same play on an error.

But it wasn’t enough, and a rally attempt fell short in the 7th and final inning in another 6-3 loss.

Mike Bonner (FR, Coe College) pitched a complete game between the weather-postponed segments for Des Moines.

The Peak Prospects will host the Outlaws for a rematch on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at McBride Field in Indianola.
