Jellnor’s walkoff downs Carroll 5-4 in the 13th, Prospects end losing streak

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The seven-game losing streak is over, in the most dramatic fashion possible.

With a 1-2 count, two outs on the board and the game tied 4-4, Stockholm native and recent high school graduate Lukas Jellnor hit a fly ball to right field to score Carter Thomas (FR, Wayne State [NE]) from second.

Jellnor had been a late sub behind the plate.

Des Moines improves to 10-13 and has won three of four against Carroll (12-9) this season. (Fun fact: the last time these teams met at McBride Field, the Prospects walked it off in the 13th in that game as well.)

The Peak Prospects used five pitchers, and Kyle Snyder (FR, Highland CC) got the win after throwing an inning in the top of the 13th. Jake Porter, Houston Wedgeworth, Will Johnson, and Weston Barber were the first four hurlers used. The Prospects’ pitching staff combined for 13 strikeouts.

After Carroll took a 2-0 in the 1st, Des Moines tied it in the same inning. First baseman Noah Cook (R-JR, Southern Illinois) grounded out and scored left fielder Jaylen Ziegler (FR, DMACC), and then Thomas scored on a passed ball.

Thomas then hit an RBI single in the 2nd, and Barber (FR, SWiCC) scored. The Peak Prospects led 3-2.

Carroll tied it with a run in the 3rd and then took the lead with a run in the 5th off a single from Jordan Brandenburg that scored Bryce Yosko.

In the bottom of the 9th with one out, Cook tied the game on a wild pitch.

The Peak Prospects host St. Joseph on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
