Tanner Short hits first home of the season, Des Moines falls to St. Joe

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Ellsworth CC freshman outfielder Tanner Short hit 12 home runs and 44 RBIs in his first season up in Iowa Falls.

In the bottom of the 6th with Des Moines down 5-0 and Carter Thomas (FR, Wayne State [NE]) on first base, Short drove in a two-run dinger to left field for his first-ever MINK League home run.

But the Mustangs (16-8, 14-8 MINK League) scored three in the top of the 8th to all but seal the game. The Peak Prospects are 10-14.

Des Moines out-hit St. Joe 8-6, but the Mustangs walked 10 times compared to just four for the Prospects.

In the bottom of the 8th, Short lined out to right field to score Jaylen Ziegler (FR, DMACC) from third.

A rally in the bottom of the 9th fell short – Des Moines loaded the bases but could only get a run on a fielders choice with Lukas Jellnor (FR, Stockholm, SE) at the plate and Colin Evers (FR, NIACC) scoring.

The Peak Prospects host Chillicothe on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
