Peak Prospects lose in extras despite Doyle’s nine strikeouts

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Devin Doyle, an incoming transfer to Kirkwood Community College and a Waukee native, made his first appearance with the Peak Prospects on Wednesday night.

He struck out his first five batters and threw 5.1 innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs with nine total strikeouts.

But with the bases loaded in a 2-2 ballgame in the bottom of the 7th and final inning, the Peak Prospects (10-15) had a chance to walk it off with one out on the board.

A popout and a lineout ended the inning, and the Mudcats (13-14) scored the go-ahead run in the 8th off an RBI single from Luca Boscarino.

For Des Moines, second baseman Weston Barber batted 2-4 with 2 RBIs.

The Peak Prospects host Clarinda on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT.
