Clarinda sweeps twin bill against Prospects

CLARINDA, Iowa – After a big win over the MINK League’s best team the night before, Des Moines made the return trip Friday night.

The MINK’s best team got the better of the Peak Prospects with wins of 4-3 and 5-1.

Des Moines drops to 11-17, while Clarinda is 17-8. Both games were seven innings.

GAME ONE

Kyle Snyder (FR, Highland CC) started and threw six innings with 105 pitches, six strikeouts, and one earned run.

Carter Thomas (FR, Wayne State [NE]) batted 2-3, Alex Berreth (FR, NIACC) and Cole Hillman (FR, Hutchinson CC) batted 2-4, and Tanner Short (FR, Ellsworth CC) batted 1-2 with two walks and two runs. Both Hillman and Jaylen Ziegler (FR, DMACC) had an RBI.

But the A’s scored two of their three runs on passed balls and won 4-3 in walk-off fashion on a bases-loaded RBI by Anthony Pomilla.

GAME TWO

Des Moines scored in the top of the 1st off an RBI single by first baseman Liam Gilbert (FR, East Central CC) that scored Thomas.

That proved to be the only run for Des Moines.

Clarinda put the game out of reach with three runs in the bottom of the 6th, capped off by a Joey Little RBI double, for the 5-1 win.

Gilbert finished the night batting 2-3 with the RBI.

Colton Clarahan (FR, Southeastern CC), who had been a reliever this year for Des Moines, made his first start. He threw 5.1 innings with two strikeouts, giving up four runs on four hits with three walks.

The Peak Prospects host Chillicothe on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT.
