Peak Prospects fall at Carroll on Independence Day

CARROLL, Iowa – Despite 12 hits, Des Moines struggled to score runs on Tuesday afternoon and fell 4-2 at Merchants Park.

The Carroll Merchants have improved to 14-14, while the Peak Prospects are 13-18.

Carroll took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd off a 2-RBI double from shortstop Bryce Yosko.

Des Moines responded with an RBI single from second baseman Weston Barber (FR, SWCC) in the 4th.

In the same inning, third baseman Cade Grevengoed (FR, Northeast CC [NE]) lined out to the shortstop Yosko, who attempted to throw Barber out at second base. The throw went awry, and DH Jaxon Brooks (FR, Mesa CC) ran home from third to tie the game, 2-2.

But likewise in the 4th, Des Moines had two runners tagged on their way home (one of them on the RBI from Barber), which may have been the biggest difference in the game.

Carroll took the lead for good in the 5th when right fielder Cullen McBride sent home two runners on an RBI single.

For the Peak Prospects, incoming Kirkwood CC transfer Devin Doyle started and threw 4.1 innings, and Jeter “Dock” Fulbright IV (FR, University of the Ozarks) relieved.

Des Moines hosts Nevada for a doubleheader at 5 and 7 p.m. CT on Wednesday.
