Des Moines splits home doubleheader with Sedalia

INDIANOLA, Iowa – In the first game, Kyle Snyder’s pristine pitching propelled the Peak Prospects past the Bombers.

The freshman from Highland Community College threw a seven-inning complete game, giving up one hit and two walks while striking out nine batters.

But the Des Moines offense remained relatively quiet in both games, as the Peak Prospects won the first 3-0 but lost the second 8-3.

The Peak Prospects are 15-22, while Sedalia is 16-22. Since the teams are in separate divisions, they are not competing with each other for playoff contention.

In the first game, Des Moines got on the board in the 3rd off a double from shortstop Bubba Thompson (JR, Clarke University). Because of a fielding error in the outfield, center fielder Carter Thomas (FR, Wayne State [NE]) scored an unearned run.

In the 4th, left fielder Jaylen Ziegler (FR, DMACC) hit an RBI single, and Des Moines added an insurance run in the 6th off an RBI triple by DH Blake Anderson (FR, Johnson County CC).

In the second game, Des Moines was out-hit 11-2, and Sedalia scored two in the 2nd, three in the 5th, and three in the 6th.

Second baseman Cole Hillman (FR, Hutchinson CC) walked twice and scored two runs. The Peak Prospects garnered RBIs off a single from catcher Isaac Short (FR, Northwestern College [IA]) and a sacrifice fly by shorstop Cade Grevengoed (FR, Northeast CC [NE]). Right fielder Diego Morales (FR, Bryant & Stratton [VA]) scored a run as well.

Des Moines loaded the bases three times and walked nine times, but they didn’t score more than one run in a single inning.

The Peak Prospects travel to Carroll on Friday for a 6:30 p.m. meeting at Merchants Park.
